Sant Jordi is one of the long-awaited and celebrated festivals by Catalan people.
Legend tell us that Sant Jordi, the Catalonia patron, according to popular tales, was the one who killed the dragon that lived in Montblanc and that had the entire population frightened, saving the king’s daughter from certain death. Tradition says that where the dragon spilled his blood, a beautiful rosebush of red roses was born. On Sant Jordi’s day, lovers exchange a rose and a book, and all the cities and towns of Catalonia are filled with stalls selling both.
The Sant Jordi Festival is one of the most special and beautiful days, and this year we will celebrate it as always with books and roses, returning to normality after two years with restrictions due to COVID. We recover this 2022, the activities program and the acts of popular culture that are part of the essence of Mataró.
A party in which roses and books are the protagonists but also authors and publishers participate.
186 rose stands have been authorized between professionals, entities, schools and individuals, and 24 book stands, in this case professionals and entities. In addition, the Plaza de Santa Anna will once again be the space for the Book Fair, which will be open on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 April from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
At the Fira there will be 11 stops to choose from among the main publishing novelties. Of these, 8 are bookshops in Mataró, two of the stops are for authors and there will also be a stop for the Mataró Libraries with the Consorci de Normalització Lingüística.
