Once the C-32 highway is free of tolls, the Maresme town councils are considering converting the N-II into a pacified urban road, in a definitive way for pedestrians.
The idea is to reduce the space for vehicles and enlarge the pedestrian zone.
Generalitat and the coastal towns in Maresme are working together is to convert the N-II into a large avenue with gardens, bike lanes and new roundabouts that will facilitate the connection with the C-32, understood from now on as a fast track, while the N-II will no longer be considered as a highway.
The purpose is to ensure that some part of the traffic that until now circulated on the N-II to avoid tolls is directed to the C-32, so that accidents, pollution and traffic jams can be avoided.
As said the Secretary General of the Vice-Presidency and Territories, Ricard Fon, in some towns, especially in Maresme south, the integration proposal will be very daring “with wider sidewalks, one traffic lane in each direction, more public transport and continuous cycle lanes. ”. In the northernmost part, the action will be more in line with pacifying traffic. It is there that even today the circulation of the N-II exceeds the C-32, a situation that is expected to change once the new toll-free highway is consolidated.
