Santa Florentina Castel,Canet de Mar
The Castell de Santa Florentina is an old medieval building from the 11th century that is located in Canet de Mar, Maresme. It is built on the floor of an old villa from Roman times. In the 11th century the building became a fortified farmhouse to combat pirate incursions. At the end of the 19th century, Ramon de Montaner i Vila, owner of the building and the Montaner i Simón (now the Fundació Antoni Tàpies), commissioned his nephew Lluís Domènech i Montaner to restore it.
Lluís Domènech i Montaner, one of the greatest of Catalan Modernism, designed the 3,000 habitable square meters of Santa Florentina. With some of the best artists and craftsmen, he introduced stained glass windows colored with religious symbols, large pieces of marble with mosaics for the floors, carved and coffered wood for the ceilings, stained glass, ceramics, wrought iron and sculptures that they harmonize a balanced space full of color, light, shapes and volumes.
Domènech i Montaner defined the project as a palace residence with medieval and romantic castle touches in harmony with an aesthetic and creative modernist language. This reform inspired in medieval, modernist and neo-Gothic elements gave greater renown to the Castle of Santa Florentina.
The Castell de Santa Florentina owes its name to a relic brought from Rome by Ferrer de Canet as a present and protection given by Pope Benedict XII and also by the memory of Ramon de Montaner’s wife, Florentina Malatto i Suriñach. In 1910 the king granted the title of Count of Valle de Canet to Ramon de Montaner in recognition of his industrial and cultural work

The castle was one of the settings of the series “Game of Thrones”, specifically during the sixth episode of the sixth season, when it became Horn Hill. In just nine days, a team of decorators made it the headquarters of House Tarly. The decorations were amazing and added a gothic flair to the castle.
Throughout the year the castle can be visited with audio guides in 8 languages, and the accompaniment of a person from the team at all times. In addition, outside the summer months, there is the option of a guided tour. It can also be rented for weddings and all kinds of celebrations.
