On Monday June 1, Maresme region has diverged again in the de-escalation phases. While north of Canet de Mar (Girona health region) has passed Phase 2, south of Arenys de Mar (North Metropolitan health region) remains in Phase 1, probably until June 8.
Maresme Phase 1
Maresme Phase 1
The Maresme area that remains in Phase 1. Firstly, the three health regions into which Barcelona and its metropolitan area are divided have been unified into a single health region.
This means that we can move within the region, that is to say that if we live in Mataró we can go to Barcelona or Granollers, in any case, we must bear in mind that the time bands remain:
- From 6 to 10 am: walks and sports activities for people over 14 years of age.
- From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: walks and sports activities for people over 70 and dependent or disabled people.
- From 12 noon to 7 pm: walks with children under 14 accompanied by adults or those over 14 years of age.
- From 7pm to 8pm: walks and sports activities for people over 70 and dependent or disabled people.
- From 8pm to 11pm: walks and sports activities for over 14 years
Other measures that have been added for those who are in Phase 1 are:
- Will be opened swimming pools, non-recreational sports, use by previously appointment and 30% of the capacity.
- Full training or pre-competition is allowed in professional leagues without audience and with 50% of the capacity.
- Competitions are resumed in professional leagues without an audience .
We must wear a mask, as long as the safety distance of 2 meters cannot be maintained on public roads, in outdoor spaces (parks, for example), and in closed spaces for public use or that are open to the public ( stores, for example)

What can we do in Phase 2?
Maresme areas who have entered Phase 2 may start to have a more normal life. Let’s see some of the activities that are allowed in this phase:
- Go to the beach in groups of up to 15 people, both for sunbathing or bathing and for sports. It is necessary to allocate 4 square meters per bather.
- Active and nature tourism can be done in groups of up to 20 people.
- Meetings of up to 15 people in homes and in public spaces.
- Walks without a time limit in the health region itself.
- Bars, shops and restaurants can open up to 40% of their capacity.
- Pools can open up to 30% and recreational pools by appointment.
- Cinemas, theaters, museums and monuments can open with restrictions of 30% of the capacity.
- Non-professional sport can be practiced in any public space within the health region.
In this phase, personal protection measures such as the use of mandatory face masks, the maintenance of a distance between people of at least 1.5 meters or the frequent cleaning of hands are still in force.
The improvement of the health situation in all of Catalonia makes it foresee, at least that is what the Generalitat de Catalunya has implied, that the stages of lack of confinement will accelerate.
How does it affect schools and families with children?
A frequent question in all families with young children…. do the schools finally open?
Maresme schools and institutes, as long as they are in phase 2, will be opened to offer face-to-face educational and emotional attention to the volunteer students who finish the stage, in groups of 13 students for sixth grade, and 15 students for 4o ESO, second Baixillerato and last Professional Training courses.
For the rest of the students who want to attend, there will be personalized attention with the tutors who consider it necessary.
Education has provided a reception service for students from 3 to 6 years old from 09:00 to 13:00 whose families cannot make classroom work more flexible, a maximum of 8 students for P3 and 10 for P4 and P5.
Until June 19, the last day of the school year, there will be no school classes, no subject will be advanced, nor will there be a dining room service.
The masks are only indicated for teachers, and students from 5 years will have to put it on if the safety distance of two meters cannot be guaranteed.
Families whose children attend schools must provide guarantees of children’s health and have an up-to-date vaccination card.
One of the constants will be hand hygiene, which will be done with a minimum frequency of two hours and preferably at the beginning and after each activity, so the center must have hydroalcoholic gel.
