¡IRONMAN BARCELONA 2023!

Sunday, October 1, 2023

The Qatar Airways IronMan Barcelona and IronMan 70.3 Barcelona tests will take place next Sunday, October 1, 2023 in the municipality of Calella. This is one of the events that make up the famous and prestigious IronMan Circuit, in addition to being the second largest IRONMAN Festival in Europe.

Anyone over 18 years of age and who complies with specific health regulations may participate. In this year’s edition, almost 5,000 athletes have registered, and we must highlight the international nature of this event, with 91% foreign participation.

It is also important to highlight the growing female presence year after year, since this 2023 edition will have 13.3% participation of female triathletes.

The IronMan race route will be the usual one:

    • 3.8 km swimming (open sea)
    • 180 km of cycling (most of it on the N-II with very little gradient)
    • 42,195 km of running

As for the IronMan 70.3 test, it will have the following route:

    • 1.9 km swimming (open sea)
    • 90 km of cycling (most of it on the N-II with very little gradient)
    • 21.10 km of running

Known for its magnificent location on the Maresme coast and its emblematic lighthouse, Calella is a fantastic tourist and sports enclave. Its beaches and Mediterranean climate offer an unbeatable setting for triathlon enthusiasts.

10IronWomen

The 10IronWomen team will also participate in this 2023 edition, an independent community created to inspire women to participate in triathlons. It emerged in 2018 in the United Kingdom as a group of ten friends who set out to complete the Qatar Airways IronMan Barcelona 2019 and shared their progress through social networks. Over the past four years, it has grown to become a triathlon club with over 50 members, making it the largest club to participate in this event.

The example of Ramon Arroyo

The IronMan 70.3 Barcelona 2023 test will feature the presence of Ramon Arroyo, a Basque athlete who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. However, and despite the tremendous emotional blow that this entailed, Arroyo fought and rebelled against the disease to show that he is still capable of competing.

In 2013, Arroyo already succeeded at the 3.86 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42.2 km of running that are done in the test. A decade later, he returns more prepared than ever to complete IronMan 70.3, something that will be a challenge and an inspiring example for everyone.
