Govert Oost is an artist born in Frisland (Netherlands). When he finished his arts studies he left his atelier and his works, loaded his car with some art pieces and ventured to travel around Europe, spending long periods in northern Italy and on Sardinia island.
“There I found an audience that appreciated my works,” he says, and there were people who had even cried when observing them carefully.
So neither Govert nor his paintings leave you indifferent. At the age of six he had an almost fatal accident, in which he lost the whole of his left leg. This did not mean limits, and he continued advancing crutches in hand, finding in the painting his way of expression. Currently, he is half settled in the Maresme. He spends long seasons on the Costa de Barcelona where his two children live and in recent years they have given him a new inspiration. He is no longer dedicated to creating paintings or sculptures, now his new works are full of life and also provide entertainment.
“I’ve gone from artist to artisan,” he says, “but I’m still working with my soul on everything I do, Art is love.”
Swings, trapezoids, pieces to climb etc, places to live the joy of feeling like a child. He personally chooses the wood he will use for each piece, observes it and decides what it will become. The manual polishing allows you to take out hidden shapes and textures, which are made to spend a long life, also outdoor. “The piece that has triumphed most are the planes,” he says. Original pieces made with barrels to which he transforms until turning them into small airplanes-swings where to let the imagination fly.
His works now are not only to be admired, but to be enjoyed either by children or adults. Decorate houses and gardens, adapt them to the environment and bring us closer to a more playful nature.
Although at the moment he only has his facebook page (Govert Oost) to see his works, he has exposed some of them in a Maresme house
