The town of Vilassar de Dalt, formerly also called San Ginés de Vilassar, is a municipality of Catalonia. It belongs to the province of Barcelona and is located in the region of El Maresme, located between the municipalities of Cabrils, Orrius, Premiá de Dalt and Vilassar de Mar.
It is located about ten kilometers from Mataró, capital of the region and about twenty kilometers from Barcelona.
Vilassar de Dalt is a millenary town, the first document that mentions it date of the year 978. The town grew around the Castle of the tenth century (declared a historical and artistic monument in 1931) and the parish of the eleventh century.
In 1875 a small urban nucleus of houses built near the sea separates and passes to form Vilassar de Mar, which is constituted as a town.
