Cabrera de Mar is a quiet and pleasant municipality located in the center of the Maresme region, in a small valley open to the coast and at its peak the castle of Burriac and the cross of Montcabrer, between the towns of Vilassar de Mar and Mataró. It has two and a half kilometers of beach, its main population center is inland some 2,500 meters from the sea.
Beyond the small nucleus that gives its name to the municipality, the Pla de l’Avellà (Beach Area) and the old Agell neighborhood are also part of it, as well as some residential developments.
Recently, the Cabrera de Mar City Council commissioned the Barcelona Provincial Council to carry out a study to undertake a series of improvements for the future of the municipality.
These improvements include, among others:
- Creation of a restricted area for road traffic (Illa de vianants)
- Opening of a bicycle and pedestrian lane (Llaç Verd)
- Tunnelling of the Rambla dels Vinyals and the pacification of the Carretera Nacional II
Let’s comment these points in a little more depth:
Illa de vianants (Pedestrians only area)
It consists of the creation of a pedestrian area in the historic center of the town of Cabrera de Mar, which will partially or totally restrict vehicle traffic, depending on each street. The affected streets will be Sant Anselm Clavé, Sant Vicenç, Sant Joan and Baixada de l’Església.
This will make it possible to create a much safer and healthier environment for people, placing special emphasis on the little ones since the Sant Feliu school facilities are located in this section. It should be noted in this regard that, once the new road on Torrent de ca l’Ignasi street is opened, it is planned to restrict mobility through Pujada de les Monges, a street with a steep inclination and that lacks the elements of necessary security.
Traffic will be redirected through the perimeter streets, and new parking areas will also be enabled.
Llaç Verd (Green Path)
This is the opening of a set of itineraries that connect, on foot and by bicycle, the nucleus of Pla de l’Avellà with the center of the town of Cabrera de Mar.
The streets that would be affected by this improvement are l’Avinguda Onze de Setembre, the B-502 road, the Torrent dels Vinyals, the Rambla dels Vinyals, the N-II and the Riera de Cabrera.
To carry out this project, the participation of both the Cabrera de Mar City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council will be necessary, since the latter is the holder of the N-II.

Tunnelling of the Rambla dels Vinyals & Pacification N-II
Finally, these two projects that are intertwined and that, once completed, will mean a true urban transformation and a significant change in the mobility model of the area:
Firstly, the burying of the Rambla dels Vinyals, which already has an executive project approved by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA), as the administration responsible for this space. The action would also include the channeling of the Torrent dels Vinyals, between the Argentona road and Montnegre street, next to the Institut Escola, and the improvement of the water pumping in the underground access passage to the beach.
And on the other hand, the pacification of the important Carretera Nacional II, as it passes through Baix Maresme. Ownership of said infrastructure will be transferred from the Generalitat to the different municipalities for which it competes. This will allow the corresponding Town Halls to implement an important modification in its current configuration, since it will have a single traffic lane in each direction, as well as wide sidewalks and a two-way bike lane. Additionally, a new roundabout and a space will be built that will link Pla de l’Avellà with the train station.
