Tiana hosts the 12th edition of “Tiana Negra”

This 2024 the 12th edition of the Catalan crime novel festival “Tiana Negra will be held, which will take place in Tiana between Friday, January 19 and Sunday, January 21. The event will bring the real stories of True Crime and its investigators to the Albéniz Room. The crime of the Barcelona Urban Police, with a book, documentary and its own series, will star in this year’s edition.


The festival opens on Friday, January 19, with the panel True Crime per tot arreu with the journalists and authors of the book “Rigor mortis” (Tura Soler and Narcís Bardalet) and the authors of “Sense càstig” (Jordi Grau) and “Brots de narco-societat” (Fàtima Llambrich). During the opening ceremony, the XI Agustí Vehí-Vila de Tiana Memorial Prize will also be awarded and there will be a talk with the winner of the 2023 edition, Antoni Roca.


For Saturday, January 20, the festival maintains the classics Quatre negres i un saxo with the presentation of the books “La modista de Gràcia” (Marc Font), “Eines de matar” (Josep Torrent), “Les pedres escrites” (Cristina Malagelada) and “Elles també negregen” (various authors). Youth crime novels will also have their space at the festival, with the presentation of the books “L’accident” (Empar Fernández) and “Gossos salvatges” (Georgina Dalmau).

But undoubtedly the highlight will be the round table focusing on the true case of Barcelona’s Guardia Urbana crime. The crime of passion of the Urban Police agent and the details of the investigation, which have been the subject of the book “Solo tú me tendrás”, a documentary and the Netflix series “El cuerpo en llamas” starring Quim Gutiérrez and Úrsula Corberó will focus on the Saturday afternoon of Tiana Negra.

In addition, the festival will include classics such as Cadira d’orelles with the interview with Àlex Martin who presents the book “Interrogatoris (gènere negre i memòria)”; the panel Del passat al futur with Jordi de Manuel, Àlex Martín and Silvestre Vilaplana, who present the books “Caront”, “Vapor negre” and “Àngels de la mort”; and the conversation “La riquesa del gènere” with Andreu Martín, Maribel Torres and Lluís Antón Baulenes, authors of the books “Allò que només passa als altres”, “Cartes marcades” and “Seré el teu mirall”.

The Tiana Negra 2023 Awards for lifetime achievement in Creation and Translation will also be presented on Saturday. In addition, the festival will feature the great Tiana Negra Trivial and the monologue “La més bella del món”, by Ada Castells.


The festival will close on Sunday, January 21, with a route based on the true assault to Tiana’s Bank (La Caixa) by the “maqui” Quico Sabaté (opposition guerrilla against Franco’s fascist regime)  and a vermouth at La Centraleta, the real scene of the assault.

A mysterious enigma to solve

The previous week (January 12, 13 and 14) the Tiana Negra crime evidence game will begin. The suspect will have to be discovered among different businesses and municipal facilities, as well as the weapon used and the location of the “crime.” Throughout the week you can investigate the enigma of the Black Tiana, and then write the name of the suspect who is believed guilty on an envelope and deposit it in one of the urns that will be installed at the Municipal Library, at the bookstore Mi bella serendipia, at the bakery Aixelà and at La Centraleta. The winner of the game will be announced on Sunday, January 21 during the black vermouth.
